programs
T
he YWCA has provided a wide range of services and activities
for Tucson women and their families since our organization
was founded in 1917. Early services included a residence for women,
swimming lessons, health and fitness classes, child day care, and
shelter for victims of domestic violence. The programs of the YWCA
Tucson have changed as the needs of women have changed and as
other community organizations began to offer similar services. Our
unique programs reach more than 20,000 individuals each year.
health education
The YWCA provides the only Breast Cancer Support Program for
Spanish Speaking Women in Tucson who have been diagnosed with
breast cancer. Services include a bi-weekly support group, home and
hospital visits, transportation for treatment and other medical
appointments, and Spanish translation services.
"I
am so grateful for the support and friendship that the
YWCA has given me since I was diagnosed with breast
cancer five years ago. The support group meetings and phone
calls from Evelyn have helped me get through a very difficult
time. Gracias."
