Lupita Murillo
Lupita Murillo began her broadcasting career as the first Hispanic female broadcaster in South Texas before joining Tucson's KVOA News 4 in 1978. During her distinguished career, she earned numerous honors including awards from the Arizona Press Club, United Press International, Associated Press, and multiple Edward R. Murrow Awards. She has been recognized nationally by American Women in Radio and Television and locally by countless organizations for her service and commitment to our community.
Among her many honors, she was inducted into the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Silver Circle, received the Esperanza Award from Homicide Survivors, earned the University of Arizona Hispanic Alumni Portraits of Excellence Award, and in 2024, Tucson Mayor Regina Romero proclaimed June 30th as Lupita Murillo Day.
Most importantly, Lupita has spent her career telling the stories of our community with compassion, integrity, and heart.
