About Week Without Violence
Week Without Violence has been
a YWCA national campaign
since 1995 – 30 years!
In partnership with World YWCA, Week Without Violence is the YWCA movement’s opportunity to come together and advocate for a safer world for women, girls and families. This year’s theme, Safe Beginnings: Protecting Mothers, Nurturing Futures, is all about how we can support moms and their children as they build hopeful, healthier futures. Throughout the week, we’ll be sharing stories from real YWCA program participants to amplify their voices, honor their resilience, and inspire action.

Financial abuse can often go unnoticed; hidden in everyday transactions, shared accounts, or even tax filings. This informative virtual session led by Gina Nickerson, Senior Director of Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) at United Way of Southern Arizona, brings together community members and professionals for Hidden Costs: Understanding Financial Abuse Through Taxes to explore how tax filings, financial control, and IRS processes intersect.
During this session we’ll explore:
- What financial abuse is and how it impacts individuals and families
- How tax practices and filings can contribute to or uncover financial abuse
- The IRS Identity Protection PIN (IP PIN) process and how it helps safeguard against misuse
- Important updates, including new opportunities for children born in the next few years to receive a $1,000 savings account
We’ll end with a 15-minute Q&A for open discussion and resource sharing.
Empower yourself with the knowledge and tools to recognize, prevent, and respond to financial abuse because financial safety is a vital part of personal safety.
